Former Niger Delta militant leader and activist, Mujahid Asari-Dokubo, has issued a stern warning to terrorist groups, particularly Boko Haram, cautioning them against attempting to infiltrate Port Harcourt, the capital of Rivers State.
In a widely circulated video message, Asari-Dokubo declared that he would personally confront and eliminate any terrorist who dares to enter the city. He emphasized that his faith as a Muslim does not deter him from defending his community against violent extremists. According to him, his commitment is to protect Port Harcourt and ensure that it remains safe from the insecurity ravaging other parts of Nigeria.
“Asari-Dokubo stated that if Boko Haram or bandits attempt to operate in Port Harcourt, his business will be to kill them. He referenced his past actions in Zamfara, Plateau, and Niger States, where he claimed to have fought against terrorists, stressing that he would not hesitate to do the same in Rivers State,” reports indicate.
The warning comes amid growing concerns over the spread of insecurity across Nigeria, with bandits and insurgents carrying out attacks, kidnappings, and killings in several regions. Asari-Dokubo’s declaration underscores the heightened vigilance in Port Harcourt and reflects the determination of local leaders to resist any attempt by terrorists to destabilize the city.
Observers note that his statement is both a call to action and a reassurance to residents of Port Harcourt that measures are being taken to safeguard the city. While controversial, his remarks highlight the urgency of addressing Nigeria’s security challenges and the willingness of influential figures to take a stand against terrorism.
Asari-Dokubo’s warning is expected to spark discussions on community defense, the role of non-state actors in combating insecurity, and the broader implications for national security.
