The Federal Fire Service has officially appointed renowned Nigerian musician, Innocent Idibia, popularly known as 2Baba, as its National Fire Safety Ambassador. The announcement was made during the closing ceremony of the 2025 National Fire Safety Week, held at the Service’s Headquarters in Abuja.

The appointment is part of the Service’s renewed commitment to intensify public awareness on fire prevention and safety practices across the country. Controller General of the Federal Fire Service, Samuel Adeyemi, explained that 2Baba’s influence and reach will be instrumental in driving behavioral change and promoting a culture of safety among Nigerians.

The National Fire Safety Week, themed “Building a Culture of Fire Safety Across Nigeria: Overcoming the ‘Not My Portion’ Mentality”, featured a series of nationwide campaigns, including virtual town halls, awareness drives, and community engagement programs. The initiative emphasized the importance of personal responsibility, early hazard reporting, and proactive prevention habits.

Speaking at the ceremony, Adeyemi highlighted the need for Nigerians to abandon the mindset that fire disasters are distant possibilities, stressing that prevention must begin at the individual level. He noted that the appointment of 2Baba is a strategic move to connect with younger demographics and mobilize communities through music, advocacy, and public campaigns.

2Baba expressed gratitude for the appointment, pledging to use his platform to champion fire safety education and awareness. He emphasized the importance of collective responsibility in reducing fire incidents, assuring that he would work closely with the Service to amplify safety messages nationwide.

The Federal Fire Service also used the occasion to honor fallen and injured officers, presenting cheques under the Group Life Insurance Scheme to their families. This gesture underscored the Service’s commitment to supporting its personnel while advancing its mission of safeguarding lives and property.

The appointment of 2Baba as Fire Safety Ambassador marks a significant step in the Service’s broader strategy to integrate public figures into national campaigns, ensuring that fire safety becomes a shared priority across all communities.
