The Kano State Government has announced the presentation of its 2026 Appropriation Bill, totaling ₦1.368 trillion, to the State House of Assembly. Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf formally laid out the proposal, describing it as the largest budget in the state’s history and a bold step toward infrastructure development, inclusive growth, and sustainable progress.
The proposed budget allocates 68% to capital expenditure, amounting to ₦934.6 billion, while 32% is set aside for recurrent expenditure, totaling ₦433.4 billion. This capital-to-recurrent ratio is one of the highest ever recorded in Kano, underscoring the administration’s commitment to long-term investments in critical sectors

Education leads the allocations with ₦405.3 billion, representing 30% of the total budget. Infrastructure follows with ₦346.2 billion (25%), while Health receives ₦212.2 billion (16%). Governor Yusuf emphasized that these priorities reflect his administration’s vision to strengthen human capital, modernize public facilities, and improve healthcare delivery across the state.
The Governor also highlighted the performance of the 2025 budget, which achieved a 70% implementation rate despite fiscal challenges. He assured lawmakers and citizens that the 2026 budget would build on this momentum, focusing on completing legacy projects and expanding opportunities for inclusive development.
With this record-breaking budget, Kano State aims to position itself as a leader in subnational development planning. The administration expressed confidence that the proposed allocations will accelerate economic growth, enhance social welfare, and reinforce the state’s role as a hub of commerce and education in northern Nigeria.
