Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has called on young people across the country to take the lead in driving climate action and environmental sustainability. Speaking at a youth-focused forum in Abuja, she emphasized that the future of Nigeria’s environment and economy depends on the active participation of its younger generation in tackling climate change.

Senator Tinubu highlighted the urgent need for innovative solutions to address rising environmental challenges, including flooding, desertification, and deforestation, which continue to threaten livelihoods and communities nationwide. She stressed that Nigerian youths possess the creativity, energy, and resilience required to champion initiatives that will safeguard the planet for future generations.

She urged students, entrepreneurs, and community leaders to embrace renewable energy, waste recycling, and sustainable agricultural practices, noting that these efforts not only protect the environment but also create new economic opportunities. “Climate change is not a distant problem; it is here with us. Our youths must rise to the challenge and lead the way in building a greener, safer Nigeria,” she stated.

The First Lady reaffirmed her commitment to supporting youth-led initiatives through advocacy, partnerships, and programs that encourage environmental stewardship. She also called on government agencies, civil society, and the private sector to collaborate with young Nigerians in scaling up climate-friendly projects.

Her remarks underscore Nigeria’s broader commitment to global climate goals and the importance of empowering the next generation to take ownership of the fight against climate change.
