President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has directed the Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare to ensure the immediate resolution of the ongoing doctors’ strike that has disrupted healthcare services across Nigeria. The directive comes in response to the indefinite industrial action declared by the Nigerian Association of Resident Doctors (NARD), citing unmet demands and unpaid arrears.

In compliance with the President’s order, the Ministry announced the release of ₦11.995 billion within 72 hours to settle outstanding payments owed to health workers, including accoutrement allowances and salary arrears. The move is aimed at restoring industrial harmony and ensuring uninterrupted medical services in public hospitals nationwide.

President Tinubu emphasized that the welfare and stability of Nigeria’s health workforce are non-negotiable priorities for his administration. He urged all stakeholders to work collaboratively to resolve the crisis and prevent further disruption to essential medical services.

Despite the federal intervention, the Association of Resident Doctors in the Federal Capital Territory Administration (ARD-FCTA) has declared a separate indefinite strike, citing unresolved local issues. This parallel action is expected to compound service disruptions in Abuja and surrounding areas.
