The Australian Government has cancelled the visa of a 43-year-old British man and initiated deportation proceedings following charges related to the display of banned Nazi symbols and online advocacy.
The man, a resident of Queensland, was charged by the Australian Federal Police (AFP) on December 8, 2025, with three counts of displaying prohibited Nazi symbols and one count of using a carriage service to menace, harass, or cause offence.
The offences allegedly took place between October 10 and November 5, 2025, involving posts on the social media platform X where he displayed Nazi symbols, promoted pro-Nazi ideology, expressed hatred toward the Jewish community, and advocated for violence against them. After his primary account was blocked, he reportedly created a secondary account to continue sharing similar content.
During a search of his home in Caboolture, Queensland, on November 21, 2025, authorities seized several weapons, including swords emblazoned with swastika symbols, axes, and knives. These charges were filed under Commonwealth law, reflecting Australia's strict prohibitions on Nazi symbology and hate speech.
Home Affairs Minister Tony Burke announced the visa cancellation today, emphasizing the government's zero tolerance policy toward hate and extremism. "I said some time ago that as far as freedom of speech was concerned, I had no time for hatred when it came to cancelling visas," Minister Burke stated. "If you come to Australia on a visa, you are here as a guest,” he stated.
“Almost everyone on a visa is a good guest and a welcome guest in our country. But if someone comes here for the purposes of hate, they can leave. And that’s what we’re doing." He added.
The decision aligns with ongoing efforts to strengthen hate speech laws, including proposed legislation that would expand ministerial powers to cancel visas based on incitement of hatred alone. The individual remains in custody pending deportation arrangements.
The Department of Home Affairs is committed to protecting Australia's diverse communities and upholding national security through robust immigration and border policies.
