The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, today stated that Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara does not need his permission to join the All Progressives Congress (APC). Wike made this clear during a live media chat at his home in Port Harcourt.

Wike explained that Fubara's recent move to the APC is not a surprise. Many members of the Rivers State House of Assembly and local council chairmen have already switched to the APC. Fubara announced his defection from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) after meeting with President Bola Tinubu in Abuja. He said he wants to give full support to the President ahead of the 2027 elections.

"I cannot stop anyone from joining any party," Wike said. "Fubara does not need my clearance. It is natural for him to follow others who have left for the APC. But joining the party or supporting the President does not mean you get an automatic ticket for the next election. You have to work hard and earn it."

Wike also addressed rumors about his own role in politics. He noted that some people accused him of helping the APC by weakening the PDP. But now, many of those same people have joined the APC too.

This statement comes amid ongoing talks about leadership in Rivers State. Wike stressed that the focus should be on hard work, not easy wins.
