The Nasarawa State Police Command announces with deep regret the tragic loss of Police Inspector Jampi Mbursa and two civilians in a brazen ambush by unidentified gunmen. The attackers also stole the inspector's service rifle during the incident.
The assault occurred on December 14, 2025, at approximately 6:30 p.m. along the Ajimaka Village road leading to Rukubi town in Doma Local Government Area. Gunmen opened fire on a routine police patrol vehicle, killing Inspector Mbursa instantly.
In addition, the assailants shot and killed Julius Igbogh and his son, Raphael Julius, both residents of Ajimaka Village. After the killings, the perpetrators seized Inspector Mbursa's AK-47 rifle, which contained 30 rounds of ammunition, and attempted to flee.
Officers in the patrol team responded swiftly and engaged the gunmen in a fierce exchange of gunfire. As a result, authorities neutralized two assailants on the spot, while others escaped with bullet wounds. The command has launched a manhunt for the fleeing suspects and vows to bring them to justice.
"The Nasarawa State Police Command extends heartfelt condolences to the families of the deceased," said DSP Ramhan Nansel, Police Public Relations Officer. "We remain committed to protecting lives and property. This cowardly act will not deter us from our duties. We urge the public to provide any information that could aid our investigation."
Security forces have reinforced patrols in the area to prevent further incidents. The command assures residents of Doma LGA and surrounding communities of enhanced measures to ensure safety.
