Prominent Islamic cleric Sheikh Ahmad Gumi today urged Nigerians to embrace peaceful coexistence with Fulani herdsmen. He emphasized that herdsmen remain an integral part of the Nigerian state.

In his statement, Sheikh Gumi declared, “Herdsmen are going nowhere. They are part of us, and we are part of them. We must learn to live together and should never become enemies with them.” He stressed that attempts to isolate or exclude herdsmen prove unrealistic and counterproductive.

Sheikh Gumi highlighted the embedded nature of herdsmen in the nation's social fabric. He warned against narratives that portray them as adversaries. According to him, Nigerians must prioritize understanding over hostility to achieve harmony.

This call comes amid ongoing debates about herder farmer clashes, which have led to violence and displacement in various regions. Many argue for accountability and stronger law enforcement to protect communities.

Sheikh Gumi's remarks have sparked widespread discussion across social media and news platforms. He maintains that coexistence remains inevitable and essential for national unity.
