A fire outbreak caused by an electrical surge has destroyed several critical sections of Rogo General Hospital in Rogo Local Government Area, Kano State. The incident, which occurred on Thursday afternoon, affected key departments including the laboratory, dental unit, physiotherapy, out-patient department, and other service areas. Fortunately, no lives were lost, and the Kano State Fire Service successfully contained the blaze, preventing further spread.
Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf has extended his heartfelt condolences to the residents of Rogo and the affected hospital staff, describing the event as a significant setback to healthcare services in the community. "We stand with the people of Rogo during this challenging time.
The destruction of these vital facilities is regrettable, but we are committed to swift action to restore normalcy," said Governor Yusuf in a statement released by the Research and Documentation Directorate, Government House Kano.
The fire, suspected to have originated from an electrical spark, razed a single-story building housing multiple departments, resulting in the loss of equipment and property worth millions of naira. Immediate response efforts by local authorities and fire responders ensured the safety of patients and personnel, with no reported injuries.
In response, Governor Yusuf has directed an immediate assessment of the damage and the commencement of renovation works to rebuild the affected sections. The state government is prioritizing the restoration of essential services to minimize disruption to healthcare delivery in the area. Temporary arrangements are being made to redirect patients to nearby facilities while repairs are underway.
