The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) today announced its decision to declare a national day of mourning and mobilize workers for nationwide protests. This action addresses the worsening insecurity that grips the nation, including rampant kidnappings and terrorist attacks.

NLC President Joe Ajaero made the declaration during the union's National Executive Council meeting. He emphasized that the Congress can no longer stand idly by as criminal gangs unleash terror on innocent Nigerians. "We will not allow kidnappers and bandits to overrun our nation," Ajaero stated. He highlighted recent incidents, such as the abduction of schoolchildren in Kebbi State and attacks on villages across multiple regions.

The national day of mourning will honor victims of violence, including murdered workers and abducted citizens. Following this, the NLC plans to organize mass protests to demand urgent government intervention. Details on dates and locations will be released soon. Ajaero called on all Nigerians to unite in reclaiming the country from criminal syndicates.

This vow comes amid spiraling kidnappings and other violent acts that disrupt daily life and economic activities. The NLC urges the federal government to enhance security measures and protect citizens effectively. Supporting voices, including human rights advocates, echo the call for accountability.

The Congress reaffirms its commitment to workers' rights and national stability. It invites affiliate unions and civil society groups to join the movement for a safer Nigeria.
