The Nigerian Army today announces the arrest of four police officers who continued to perform VIP escort duties in defiance of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's order to withdraw such personnel for redeployment to community policing.

Soldiers apprehended the officers during routine patrols in Abuja. The detainees include Assistant Superintendent of Police Musa Waziri and Inspector Jeremiah Achimogu, both from the 45 Police Mobile Force in Abuja. Authorities also detained Inspector Awipi Terry from the 21 Police Mobile Force in Abuja and Inspector Hassan Baba from the 50 Police Mobile Force in Abuja.

President Tinubu issued the directive to remove police escorts from Very Important Persons across the nation. He aims to bolster security in communities amid rising challenges. The order seeks to redirect resources toward protecting ordinary citizens rather than select individuals.

The arrested officers face investigations for non-compliance. Military personnel handed them over to relevant authorities for further action. This incident underscores the government's commitment to enforcing the withdrawal policy without exceptions.

The public receives encouragement to report any sightings of unauthorized VIP escorts. This measure helps maintain order and promotes equitable security distribution.
