In a bid to alleviate the financial strain on civil and public servants during the festive season, the Oyo State Government has introduced a comprehensive subsidy program for essential food items.
Spearheaded by the Agricultural Credit Corporation of Oyo State (ACCOS), the initiative subsidizes key staples including bags of rice, vegetable oil, chicken, and other vital commodities, with a total allocation of N100 million dedicated to ensuring affordability and accessibility for workers.
The program, which commenced this month, is designed to provide much-needed relief to state employees grappling with rising costs amid broader economic pressures. Eligible workers civil and public servants who have expressed interest are collated through their respective ministries' account sections for a transparent distribution process.
Purchases are facilitated via convenient salary deductions beginning in February 2026, allowing participants to acquire the subsidized items without immediate out-of-pocket expenses.
Governor Seyi Makinde's administration continues to prioritize worker welfare through such interventions, reflecting a commitment to improving living standards and fostering a joyful Yuletide celebration. Prince Dotun Oyelade, the Commissioner for Information and Civic Orientation, emphasized the program's significance.
“The intervention aligns with the welfare driven agenda of the state government, aimed at improving the standard of living of workers and promoting food affordability.” He added, “The arrangement is designed to ease the financial burden on workers while ensuring accountability.”
This Yuletide subsidy builds on the state's ongoing efforts to support its workforce, ensuring that families can enjoy the holidays without undue hardship. Workers are encouraged to contact their ministry account sections for more details on participation and availability.
