In a heartwarming conclusion to a harrowing ordeal, the 38 worshippers abducted from a church in Eruku, Ekiti Local Government Area of Kwara State, have safely reunited with their families following a successful rescue operation.

The victims, mostly women, were kidnapped by gunmen during an evening thanksgiving service at CAC Oke Isegun on November 18, 2025. Tragically, the attackers killed three people and injured one during the incident.

After two weeks in captivity, security agencies coordinated a joint effort to secure their release. Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq handed over the freed worshippers in Ilorin on December 2, 2025, to Ekiti LGA Chairman Awelewa Olawale Gabriel. The group received comprehensive medical examinations and essential supplies before heading home.

The emotional reunion unfolded around 6:30 pm on Tuesday in Eruku, where jubilant relatives and community members welcomed them with cheers and tears of joy. Families embraced their loved ones, marking the end of days filled with anxiety and prayers.

The Owa of Eruku expressed profound gratitude to President Bola Tinubu, Governor AbdulRazaq, and security forces for their swift and effective response. Prince Dada Sunday, in a press statement, highlighted the collective efforts that restored peace to the community.

Governor AbdulRazaq reaffirmed the state's commitment to enhancing security measures and preventing future abductions. "This rescue demonstrates our resolve to protect every citizen," he stated. "We will continue to collaborate with federal authorities to ensure lasting safety in Kwara."
