The Ondo State Security Network Agency, codenamed Amotekun Corps, has successfully apprehended 39 individuals suspected of terrorist activities who were fleeing from Sokoto State following recent United States airstrikes on Islamic State-linked camps.
The arrests took place in a forest reserve within Ondo State, as part of ongoing efforts to enhance security and prevent the infiltration of criminal elements into the South-West region.
The suspects, who claimed during interrogation to have escaped the airstrikes in Sokoto, were found hibernating in the forest after traveling southward. This operation underscores Amotekun's commitment to proactive surveillance and collaboration with other security agencies to safeguard residents.
Adetunji Adeleye, Commander of the Ondo Amotekun Corps, stated: "These 39 suspects were arrested after intelligence reports indicated their movement from the North-West following the US-led strikes on Christmas Day.
They were discovered in our forest reserve, and preliminary investigations suggest links to terrorist groups. This is a clear demonstration of our vigilance in protecting Ondo State from external threats."
The US airstrikes, conducted on December 25, 2025, targeted two ISIS-linked camps in the Bauni forest of Sokoto State, resulting in the reported deaths of multiple terrorists. Authorized by US President Donald Trump, the operation was carried out in coordination with Nigerian authorities to disrupt ISIS activities in the region.
This arrest is part of a broader clampdown, with Amotekun operatives also detaining an additional 110 suspects in related operations, bringing the total to 149 individuals. The Corps continues to work tirelessly to ensure the safety and peace of Ondo State citizens.
