The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kano State has expressed its readiness to welcome Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf and his supporters into the party, with assurances that issues surrounding automatic tickets for the 2027 elections will be resolved following the completion of defection processes.
In a statement issued today, Kano APC Chairman Abdullahi Abbas emphasized that the party is open to high-profile defections, including that of Governor Yusuf from the New Nigeria People's Party (NNPP).
"It is an issue of when all processes are completed and whoever is coming has finalized his or her defection processes," Abbas stated, addressing speculations about automatic nomination rights for defectors.
Abbas further disclosed that the defection is expected to include elected local government chairmen, councilors, and other political office holders aligned with Governor Yusuf.
"There are elected local government chairmen, councilors and other political office holders that will defect to our party with him," he added, highlighting the potential strengthening of APC's position in Kano State ahead of upcoming elections.
This development comes amid ongoing discussions and internal rifts within the NNPP, fueled by rumors of Governor Yusuf's move to the ruling APC. The APC leadership has reiterated its commitment to integrating new members seamlessly while adhering to party guidelines on nominations and tickets.
The Kano APC chapter remains optimistic about the political realignment, which could significantly impact the state's governance and electoral landscape.
