The Kano State High Court No. 2 has refused to issue a bench warrant for the arrest of former Governor Abdullahi Ganduje and three other defendants in the Dala Inland Dry Port ownership dispute. Authorities announced the decision following a hearing on January 14, 2026, at the Audu Bako Secretariat Complex.
State counsel Ya’u Adamu applied for the warrant under Section 388 of the Administration of Criminal Justice Law. He argued that Ganduje and the co-defendants failed to appear in court despite service of summons. However the court rejected the request and labeled it premature. This ruling allows the defense to address preliminary objections on jurisdiction and process service before further actions.
Prosecutors charge Ganduje, alongside Abubakar Bawuro, Adamu Aliyu-Sanda, and Hassan Bello, with 10 counts of criminal conspiracy, misappropriation of public funds, breach of trust, and conflict of interest. Investigations claim Ganduje transferred the state's 20 percent stake in Dala Inland Dry Port Limited to private entities.
He allegedly appointed his three children and aide Bawuro as directors, each receiving five million shares. Additionally, the group diverted over N4.49 billion naira for port infrastructure projects, violating financial regulations and the constitution.
The Kano State Government pursues this case as part of broader anti-corruption efforts. Officials emphasize accountability for public office holders. The administration vows to continue legal proceedings to recover misappropriated assets and ensure justice.
This development highlights political tensions between the current administration and Ganduje's allies. Observers note that the ruling upholds procedural fairness while the probe unfolds.
