Peter Obi, former Governor of Anambra State and 2023 Labour Party presidential candidate, today raises urgent questions about President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's prolonged absence. Obi posts a detailed statement on his verified X account. He highlights the leadership vacuum during Nigeria's severe economic and security challenges.

Nigeria faces unprecedented hardships. Over 140 million citizens endure extreme poverty, the highest number globally. Widespread hunger grips families. Insecurity escalates daily. Youth unemployment soars. High infant mortality rates persist. Obi stresses that these issues demand visible and engaged leadership.

Reports reveal President Tinubu will spend 196 days abroad in 2025, more than inside Nigeria. No direct communication has come from him since December 2025. He chooses a European holiday over addressing the nation for the New Year. Nigerians learn about critical events through foreign media and aides' vague updates.

Obi states, "In the midst of this chaos, where has our President been? Reports indicate he opted for a holiday in Europe while the nation was plunged into a New Year marked by hunger, anxiety, and uncertainty." He adds, "Instead of directly addressing the nation, Nigerians learned about these critical events from foreign media, American officials, and the vague communications from the Presidency’s aides. This is not governance; it’s neglect."

Furthermore, Obi emphasizes, "Leadership is not simply issuing press releases; it’s about standing before the people, engaging with them, and offering clarity. When leadership withdraws, unity falters, and the fabric of our society unravels." He frames his query as a call for accountability, not politics.

This statement sparks national debate. Citizens demand transparency. Obi urges the President to return and communicate directly. He warns that silence in crisis equals failure.
