Former Governor of Anambra State and 2023 Presidential Candidate of the Labour Party, Mr. Peter Obi, has passionately appealed to all Nigerians to unite and join him in what he has termed "Operation Rescue Nigeria" to salvage the country from prolonged bad governance and secure a brighter future for generations to come.
Speaking at the Obidient Conference and the official declaration for the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Uyo on Saturday, themed “Activating the PO Effect in ADC,” Mr. Obi emphasized that the initiative is not about personal ambition but about the collective destiny and well-being of Nigeria's people.
"The 'Operation Rescue Nigeria' project is not about me as an individual," Obi stated. "It is about the future of our children and grandchildren who will bear the brunt of decades of poor leadership, mismanagement, and bad governance if we fail to act now."
The former governor urged citizens to set aside ethnic, religious, regional, and political differences to build a united front ahead of the 2027 general elections.
He stressed the urgent need for competent, transparent, and people-centered leadership to address Nigeria's mounting challenges, including insecurity, economic hardship, and institutional failures.
Obi also issued a stern warning against any form of electoral malpractice, declaring that rigging would not be tolerated in 2027.
"Democracy must work. I appeal to you to join hands with me to rescue this country," he said, calling for mass mobilization, active participation, and vigilance to ensure free, fair, and credible elections.
He further explained his recent political realignment, noting that he parted ways with the Labour Party due to concerns over leadership recognition by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and apparent resistance to his participation on the ballot.
The event featured key figures from the Obidient movement, including Dr. Tanko Yunusa, Coordinator of the OBIDIENT Movement Worldwide, who encouraged widespread grassroots mobilization across the country.
Mr. Obi reaffirmed his commitment to a New Nigeria that is possible through prudence, competence, and patriotism principles he has consistently advocated.
