In an internal memorandum dated February 13, 2026, circulated by IPOB's Media and Publicity Secretary, Comrade Emma Powerful, the group emphasized the urgent need for coordinated financial and moral backing.
The appeal follows Kanu's personal request made prior to his sentencing on November 20, 2025 for the global IPOB family to sustain organizations that have provided consistent assistance throughout his legal battles and health challenges.
The statement highlighted that Kanu's transfer to a detention facility outside Abuja has significantly driven up logistical expenses.
Legal representatives, medical personnel, and support teams now face increased travel, accommodation, and operational costs to maintain access for consultations, examinations, and court appearances.
IPOB described these rising expenditures as a deliberate strain on resources, necessitating collective action from the movement to counteract it.
"Onyendu Mazi Nnamdi Kanu has stood firm in the face of adversity, and it is now our collective duty as a family to ensure he receives the medical attention and robust legal representation he requires," the memo stated.
It specifically urged support for trusted partner organizations, including the American Veterans of Igbo Descent (AVID), Ambassadors for Self-Determination, and the Rising Sun Foundation, which have offered aid over the years.
While broader fundraising efforts may be formalized later in the year, IPOB stressed immediate contributions to these initiatives as critical to sustaining Kanu's welfare and defense.
The group reaffirmed its commitment to non-violent advocacy for self-determination and called on members to respond swiftly and generously.
IPOB reiterated that the ongoing legal proceedings and detention conditions have placed undue burden on Kanu's health, requiring sustained medical oversight.
