Former Governor of Anambra State and 2023 Labour Party presidential candidate, Mr. Peter Obi, has issued a strong call to action for all Nigerians to ensure that every vote counts in the upcoming 2027 general elections.
In a statement posted on his official X handle today, Obi emphasized that unlike previous elections, the 2027 polls must reflect the true will of the people, with full transparency in the counting and transmission of results.
“Our Votes Must Count,” Obi stated. “Unlike in the past, in 2027 our votes MUST count, and all those who are there not to count the votes will be counted among those destroying Nigeria.”
Obi urged voters to stay vigilant at polling units after casting their ballots, to personally witness the sorting, counting, and transmission of results.
He stressed that active citizen participation is essential to protecting the integrity of the electoral process and safeguarding Nigeria's democracy.
“Those who refuse to allow the votes count will be made to count the full weight of the law against rigging,” he warned.
Reiterating his position, Obi added: “Let me reiterate: if you do not count our votes, we will count you among those who destroy our democracy, thereby destroying our future, and you must answer to the law.”
The statement comes amid growing public demands for electoral reforms, including mandatory real-time electronic transmission of results, as Nigerians prepare for the 2027 elections.
Obi's message resonates strongly with millions who have advocated for credible polls following reported irregularities in past elections.
Mr. Obi, who remains a prominent voice for good governance, transparency, and accountable leadership, continues to inspire widespread support across the country.
He has consistently championed the need for a new Nigeria built on justice, equity, and respect for the people's mandate.
Nigerians are encouraged to remain engaged, protect their votes, and hold all stakeholders accountable to ensure free, fair, and transparent elections in 2027.
