In a briefing after the FEC meeting held on Wednesday, March 4, 2026, at the State House, Abuja, the Honourable Minister of Works, Engr. David Umahi, disclosed that the approvals underscore President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's unwavering commitment to the Renewed Hope Agenda and the urgent need to enhance connectivity, reduce travel times, boost economic activities, and improve safety for millions of Nigerians.
The flagship project among the approvals is the full reconstruction of the 103-kilometre Ibadan Ife Ilesa dual carriageway in Oyo and Osun States, awarded at a cost of N427 billion.
The Minister noted that this project, previously awarded under the last administration but with minimal progress, has now been re-scoped and re-awarded to ensure high-quality delivery using durable concrete pavement standards.
He commended the Oyo State Government, led by Governor Seyi Makinde, for its complementary efforts, including the completion of approximately five kilometres to standard as part of the state's infrastructure programme.
Other major road projects approved by the FEC include: Reconstruction and upgrades in various geopolitical zones aimed at addressing long-standing infrastructure deficits.
Additional contracts for bridges, carriageway expansions, and related works that will collectively transform transportation networks across the country.
"These projects are not just about building roads; they are about opening up economic corridors, facilitating the movement of goods and people, creating jobs, and supporting President Tinubu's vision for a more prosperous and interconnected Nigeria," Engr. Umahi stated.
The Minister emphasized that the contracts emphasize quality, transparency, timeliness, and the use of modern engineering practices to deliver lasting value to taxpayers.
Work on the Ibadan.Ife Ilesa corridor and other approved segments is expected to commence or accelerate swiftly, with strict monitoring by the Federal Ministry of Works to ensure compliance with timelines and specifications.
This significant investment reflects the Federal Government's prioritization of infrastructure as a driver of national growth and development.
