Former Labour Party presidential candidate, Mr. Peter Obi, today paid a visit to former Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami, SAN, at his office in Abuja.

The visit comes as Malami faces ongoing legal proceedings involving the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and the Department of State Services (DSS) at the Federal High Court in the Federal Capital Territory.

According to a statement from the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Obi’s visit was to express support and solidarity with Malami following his recent experiences with the anti-graft agencies and subsequent court appearances.

The meeting is believed to have also touched on broader political consultations, including ongoing discussions around potential coalitions ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Photos from the cordial meeting show the two leaders engaged in warm discussions, highlighting a moment of cross-party solidarity at a time when Malami continues to navigate his legal challenges.

Malami, who served as AGF from 2015 to 2023, has maintained his innocence in the matters before the court, which include allegations related to financial transactions and other charges. The trial has seen multiple adjournments, with the next hearing dates scheduled in the coming weeks.

Mr. Obi has previously voiced concerns over what he described as the political persecution of opposition figures, including the arrests and detentions of leaders associated with the ADC coalition, such as Malami and former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai. In earlier statements, Obi called on the current administration to desist from using state institutions to target political opponents.

This visit underscores Obi’s commitment to unity, justice, and the rule of law, transcending partisan lines in the interest of national cohesion and fair play in Nigeria’s democratic process.
