President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, accompanied by the First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, arrived back in Nigeria today after concluding a historic two-day state visit to the United Kingdom at the invitation of Their Majesties King Charles III and Queen Camilla.
The visit, which took place from March 18 to 19, 2026, represented the first full state visit by a Nigerian president to the UK since 1989 and the first time a Nigerian leader has been hosted at Windsor Castle in this formal capacity.
It underscored the deepening ties between Nigeria and the United Kingdom, rooted in shared history, Commonwealth partnership, and mutual interests in economic growth, security, and global cooperation.
During the visit, President Tinubu was accorded full ceremonial honors, including a guard of honour and a state banquet hosted by King Charles III and Queen Camilla.
The President engaged in high-level discussions with British leaders, focusing on strengthening bilateral relations, expanding trade and investment opportunities, and addressing shared priorities such as economic development and immigration cooperation.
A major highlight was the signing of a £746 million financing agreement between Nigeria and Citibank in London, aimed at supporting key infrastructure and economic initiatives in Nigeria.
The engagements also included meetings with the British Prime Minister and other senior officials, where both sides reaffirmed their commitment to enhanced collaboration on trade, investment, climate action, and security matters.
President Tinubu described the visit as a pivotal moment in resetting and elevating Nigeria-UK relations for the benefit of both nations and their peoples. "This historic engagement has opened new avenues for partnership and reaffirmed Nigeria's place as a key player on the global stage," the President stated upon departure from London.
The President expressed gratitude to King Charles III, Queen Camilla, the British government, and the people of the United Kingdom for their warm hospitality and gracious reception. He also commended the Nigerian delegation and diplomatic team for their contributions to the visit's success.
President Tinubu has since returned to Abuja and resumed his duties, bringing with him renewed momentum for Nigeria's economic agenda and international partnerships.
