Key opposition figures in the African Democratic Congress (ADC) converged at the residence of Senator David Mark, the party’s National Chairman, for a high-level strategic briefing ahead of the party’s much-anticipated National Convention.
Present at the closed-door meeting were former Anambra State Governor and 2023 Labour Party presidential candidate, Mr. Peter Obi; former Rivers State Governor and ex-Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi; and former Sokoto State Governor, Senator Aminu Waziri Tambuwal. The session also included other senior ADC leaders, including Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi.
The meeting focused on finalizing preparations for today’s National Convention, scheduled to hold at the Rainbow Event Centre, Area 8, Garki, Abuja. Discussions centered on strengthening party unity, advancing the ongoing coalition-building efforts, and addressing critical issues around democratic governance, including recent concerns regarding the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
Senator David Mark, who hosted the leaders, described the gathering as a demonstration of the party’s resolve to provide Nigerians with a credible, united opposition platform capable of delivering good governance and preventing a slide into a one-party state.
Mr. Peter Obi emphasized the importance of collective action in safeguarding Nigeria’s democracy, while Rotimi Amaechi and Senator Tambuwal reiterated their commitment to a transparent and inclusive process that reflects the will of party members and the broader Nigerian populace.
The ADC National Convention is expected to produce key outcomes, including the ratification of party structures, election of officials where necessary, and the formalization of strategic alliances aimed at offering Nigerians a strong alternative ahead of future elections.
The party remains undeterred by recent challenges and is fully prepared to conduct a successful, credible convention that upholds the highest standards of internal democracy.
