FIFA President Gianni Infantino has confirmed that the Islamic Republic of Iran will participate in the FIFA World Cup 2026™ and that all of the team’s group-stage matches will be played in the United States as originally scheduled.

Speaking to AFP on Tuesday following Iran’s friendly international against Costa Rica in Turkey, President Infantino stated unequivocally: “Iran will be at the World Cup and play in the US.”

“The matches will take place where they are supposed to, according to the draw,” he added. “We are fully focused on delivering a successful tournament for all 48 participating teams and all fans around the world.”

Iran qualified for the expanded 48-team finals and were drawn into Group G. Under the match schedule released by FIFA last year, Team Melli are scheduled to play their three group-stage fixtures on U.S. soil. FIFA has consistently maintained that the draw and venue allocations remain unchanged.

The confirmation comes amid recent public discussion regarding Iran’s participation. FIFA reiterates that football stands for unity and that the World Cup belongs to all qualified nations. The organization continues to work closely with all participating member associations, host countries, and relevant authorities to ensure the safety and security of every team, player, and supporter.

FIFA World Cup 2026™ will be co-hosted by Canada, Mexico, and the United States from 11 June to 19 July 2026. It marks the first time the tournament is being staged across three countries and features 48 teams for the first time in history.
