In a significant political realignment ahead of the upcoming elections, scores of members from the Allied Democratic Congress (ADC), Liberty Party (LP), and the Social Democratic Party (SDP) have officially defected to the National Democratic Congress (NDC).

The defectors, including three former parliamentary candidates and several regional executives from the respective parties, cited the NDC’s track record on economic recovery, social intervention programs, and party unity as key factors in their decision.

Speaking at a unity rally held at the party’s headquarters, the NDC’s National Chairman welcomed the new members, stating, “This mass movement is a testament to the fact that the NDC remains the only formidable coalition of progressives capable of rescuing Ghana from the current economic hardship. We open our doors to all who share the vision of rebuilding our nation.”

Representing the defectors, a former ADC Vice-Chairman noted, “The opposition is no longer fragmented. We have examined the political landscape and concluded that the NDC provides the strongest platform to address unemployment, infrastructure decay, and the cost-of-living crisis. We are not just joining a party; we are joining a movement for national restoration.”

Political analysts view this defection as a strategic blow to any potential third-force coalition, consolidating the NDC’s base in key battleground regions. The NDC has since set up an integration committee to absorb the new members into its existing ward and constituency structures.

The party has called on remaining members of the ADC, LP, and SDP to follow suit, promising inclusive representation and a unified front in the next general election.
