Eight members of the House of Representatives on Tuesday announced their defection to various political parties, three joined the African Democratic Congress (ADC), two moved to the All Progressives Congress (APC), two defected to Accord Party, while one member joined the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Those who changed parties include Abubakar Abdul Buba (Niger), who moved from the PDP to the APC; Sani Yakubu Noma (Kebbi), PDP to ADC; Ibrahim Mohammed Bunza (Kebbi), PDP to APC; Mudashiru Alani (Osun), PDP to Accord; Olusoji Adetunji (Osun), PDP to Accord. Thaddeus Attah (Lagos), who defected from the Labour Party (LP) to ADC; Bashir Usman Zubairu (Kaduna), APC to ADC; and David Abel Fouh (Taraba), APC to PDP.
Speaker Tajudeen Abbas acknowledged the changes and directed the Clerk of the House to update the official party membership register accordingly.
Political observers note that defections of this magnitude could alter committee leadership positions and coalition dynamics in the House. With elections approaching, both major parties are expected to intensify efforts to shore up their caucuses and prevent further exits.
