Thousands of members of the Islamic Movement in Nigeria (IMN), popularly known as Shi’ites, staged a peaceful solidarity rally in Bauchi today, reaffirming support for Iran and calling on Muslims worldwide to adhere strictly to the teachings of the Qur’an and the traditions of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him).
The rally followed the closing ceremony of the 5th International Conference on Islamic Thought, themed “The State of Affairs and the Way Out,” organized by the Sisters’ Forum and Academic Forum under the leadership of Sheikh Ibraheem Zakzaky. Participants from Nigeria, Niger, Chad, and other African countries attended the three-day event, which focused on Islamic principles, resistance to oppression, and global justice.
Malama Zeenatuddeen Ibraheem Zakzaky, wife of the IMN leader, addressed the gathering and urged faithful to align their lives with divine guidance. “Muslims must live their lives according to how Allah enjoined us in the Qur’an and the way the Prophet has brought it to us,” she said. “We are not saying that everybody should become Muslims, but we also cannot afford to live against the teachings of the Qur’an.”
On the ongoing conflicts involving the United States, Israel, and Iran, she declared: “I am siding with the axis of resistance against aggression. We know who the aggressors are.”
Engineer Abdullahi Musa, a follower of Sheikh Zakzaky, emphasized the rally’s purpose: “We are out today as usual. We have been coming out for decades to show our solidarity with the oppressed people of Palestine… It is mandatory to act against injustice. The purpose of all prophets is to fight for justice.”
Musa added that the demonstration expressed solidarity with Iran and the Palestinian people, noting the sacrifices made in the cause of justice. He called on the Nigerian government to take concrete action in support of the oppressed and criticized the country’s political system, stating that the problem lies not with individual leaders but with the system itself.
The protesters marched peacefully, chanting slogans in support of Palestine and the resistance against aggression, while condemning injustice and oppression in the Middle East. Speakers highlighted that standing against tyranny is a universal religious duty, applicable to both Muslims and Christians, as exemplified by the missions of all prophets, including Jesus (peace be upon him).
The event underscored the IMN’s long-standing commitment to the Palestinian cause and solidarity with Iran, in line with the legacy of the Islamic Revolution. Participants reaffirmed allegiance to Islamic revolutionary thought and the principles of justice and resistance to foreign aggression.
Sheikh Muhammad Abbare, representing the movement in Gombe State, stressed that “good governance must be rooted in justice and fear of God.”
The Islamic Movement in Nigeria described the rally as part of its ongoing efforts to remind Muslims of their responsibilities as believers and to promote awareness of global injustices.
