The Kaduna State chapter of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has formally declared its full support for a Peter Obi-Rabiu Kwankwaso presidential ticket ahead of the 2027 general elections, positioning the alliance as a formidable force to rescue Nigeria from years of economic hardship, insecurity, and poor governance under the All Progressives Congress (APC).
The endorsement was made during the party’s first expanded joint executive committee meeting, which brought together governorship, National Assembly, and State House of Assembly aspirants, zonal executives, local government chairmen, and ward leaders from all 23 local government areas of the state.
Speaking at the gathering, Kaduna State NDC Chairman, Mordecai Ibrahim, sharply criticized successive APC administrations since 2015 for what he described as dragging Nigeria “50 years backwards,” leaving citizens in economic distress and insecurity.
“Nigerians are indeed groaning today under President Bola Tinubu’s administration like the children of Israel groaned under Pharaoh’s slavery,” Ibrahim stated.
He announced that the party has successfully established structures across all 255 wards in Kaduna State and is set to unveil its state secretariat soon. The NDC has also raised its membership target to 1,500 persons per ward, aiming to register at least 1.5 million members across the state before October 31, 2026.
Chairman Ibrahim expressed strong confidence in the party’s prospects, declaring that with the calibre of aspirants gathered and a clear presidential direction, the NDC is headed for Aso Rock Villa in 2027.
Governorship aspirant Ibrahim Abdulkarim reinforced the momentum, noting that the party already has over 30,000 officials in the state. He highlighted the alignment of the “Obidient movement” with the NDC nationally and affirmed that Mr. Peter Obi has secured the party’s presidential ticket, with Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso tipped as a strong running mate.
“At least if you have these two people, every young man and young woman in Nigeria will believe this is exactly the kind of combination we want people who care about education and are trying to lift young people,” Abdulkarim said.
The aspirant also called for unity in Kaduna State, urging residents to rise above religious divisions and leverage the state’s diversity for progress and development.
The NDC leadership emphasized that the party’s interest remains supreme and urged all members and incoming defectors to prioritize building a strong, winning platform capable of delivering victory both in Kaduna State and at the national level.
