President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the appointment of Professor Segun Aina as the new Registrar/Chief Executive of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB).
Professor Aina, a 39-year-old distinguished scholar of Computer Engineering at Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, will succeed Professor Is-haq Oloyede, whose second and final tenure expires on July 31, 2026. He is set to assume office in August 2026, making him the youngest Registrar in the history of JAMB.
A statement issued by the Presidency described Professor Aina as a systems expert with extensive experience in national examination systems, digital infrastructure, and public-sector institutional reforms. He began his professional journey with JAMB during his National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) programme and has since built a strong reputation in technology-driven educational processes.
Professor Segun Aina holds a Bachelor of Engineering in Computer Systems Engineering from the University of Kent, United Kingdom, an MSc in Internet Computing and Network Security, and a PhD in Digital Signal Processing from Loughborough University, UK. He also completed the Senior Management Programme at Lagos Business School. He was promoted to the rank of Professor in December 2025.
Reacting to the appointment, President Tinubu expressed confidence that Professor Aina will build on the remarkable reforms achieved under Professor Oloyede, particularly in the areas of digitisation, transparency, and the fight against examination malpractices. JAMB conducts admissions for over two million candidates annually.
The President thanked Professor Is-haq Oloyede for his dedicated service and transformative leadership, which has significantly enhanced the credibility of Nigeria’s tertiary admissions process.
Professor Aina is expected to leverage his expertise in computer engineering and digital systems to further modernise JAMB’s operations and improve access to higher education for Nigerian youths.
