Former Governor of Katsina State, Alhaji Ibrahim Shehu Shema, has called on winners of the All Progressives Congress (APC) primary elections to extend a hand of fellowship to aspirants who lost out during the recently concluded nomination exercises.
Shema made the appeal while addressing party stakeholders following the successful affirmation of consensus candidates across various positions in the state, including the endorsement of Governor Dikko Umar Radda as the APC gubernatorial candidate for the 2027 elections. He stressed the need for unity, accommodation, and reconciliation to ensure the party remains strong and victorious in future polls.
“To all those who won primary elections, they must reach out to those who lost, work with them, placate them, accommodate them, and encourage them to support the party,” Shema stated.
The former governor, who has been actively involved in efforts to foster peace within the APC in Katsina State, highlighted that internal cohesion is critical for the party’s success. He urged victorious candidates to demonstrate magnanimity and leadership by integrating losers into the broader campaign machinery ahead of the 2027 general elections.
This call to reconciliation comes as the APC in Katsina State concluded its consensus arrangements, which produced candidates for various positions with minimal rancour. The process was supported by reconciliation mechanisms led by figures including former Governor Aminu Bello Masari, aimed at addressing grievances and promoting party harmony.
Party leaders have commended the maturity shown by most aspirants who stepped down or accepted the consensus outcomes, describing it as a sign of the APC’s growing strength and unity in the state.
