Comrade Timi Frank, former Deputy National Spokesman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and political activist, has strongly called on Nigerian authorities to uphold the principles of justice, fairness, and the rule of law in the ongoing detention of Mallam Nasir Ahmad El-Rufai, former Governor of Kaduna State.

In a statement issued today, Frank emphasized that while he supports genuine efforts to combat corruption, such campaigns must be conducted transparently, without political persecution or selective application of justice.

"Justice and due process must not be sacrificed on the altar of political expediency. Mallam Nasir El-Rufai, like every Nigerian citizen, deserves a fair trial, respect for his fundamental human rights, and adherence to the rule of law. Prolonged detention without timely and transparent judicial resolution raises serious concerns about the integrity of the process," Frank stated.

El-Rufai has been in custody since February 2026, facing allegations handled by agencies including the Independent Corrupt Practices Commission (ICPC), Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), and Department of State Services (DSS). Frank noted that despite multiple court interactions and bail considerations, the former governor remains detained, prompting questions about the balance between accountability and political motivations.

Frank warned against any attempts to undermine court orders or engage in extrajudicial actions, stressing that the eyes of the nation  particularly Northern leaders, civil society organizations, religious bodies, and the international community  are on the case. He reiterated that any harm to El-Rufai, whether in custody or after release, would hold responsible parties accountable.

"I support the fight against corruption, but it must be fair, balanced, and free from political witch-hunts. Power is transient, and history will judge how we treat our citizens today," he added.

Frank urged the Federal Government, security agencies, and the judiciary to ensure El-Rufai's safety, protect his rights, and expedite a fair and open judicial process. He called on all lovers of democracy and justice to speak up against any form of oppression or selective justice.

The activist further appealed to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's administration to demonstrate commitment to democratic values by ensuring that no individual is treated as a political target.
