The Lagos State Police Command has successfully intercepted a truck loaded with 47 sacks of military camouflage uniforms and 80 cartons of suspected illicit drugs in a major intelligence-led operation.
Acting on credible intelligence, operatives of the Command’s Anti-Kidnapping Unit/Tactical Squad swung into action on Saturday night and intercepted an unregistered MAN diesel truck in the Surulere area along the Lekki-Epe corridor. The vehicle was reportedly heading out of Lagos towards the South-East.
During the operation, four suspects were arrested. They are: Chinedu David, 29, Ezeagwu Chukwuma, 38, Ifeanyi Ogbeanyi, 45, Ndidiamaka Emeka, 43.
The exhibits recovered include 47 sacks containing military camouflage uniforms and 80 cartons of substances suspected to be illicit drugs. No firearms were recovered in the truck.
The Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command, CP Tijani Fatai, who paraded the suspects and exhibits at the Command Headquarters in Ikeja, commended the operatives for their swift response and professionalism. He emphasized that the Command remains committed to disrupting the activities of criminal elements, particularly those involved in the illegal possession and trafficking of military uniforms, which could be used for impersonation and banditry.
“Criminal elements must understand that Lagos will not be a safe haven for their illicit activities. We are intensifying intelligence gathering and proactive operations to keep the state safe,” the Commissioner stated.
The suspects are currently in custody and will be charged to court upon the completion of investigations. The Command is working to trace the source of the military uniforms, the ownership of the drugs, intended recipients, and any broader criminal networks involved.
The public is urged to remain vigilant and report any suspicious movements or activities to the nearest police station or through the Command’s emergency lines.
