Special Adviser to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Media and Public Communications, Mr. Sunday Dare, has firmly dismissed any notion that the Presidency or the All Progressives Congress (APC) fears the political activities of Peter Obi, the 2023 Labour Party presidential candidate and current flagbearer of the Nigerian Democratic Congress (NDC).

Speaking during a recent interview, Dare asserted that the Tinubu administration stands on a solid foundation of performance and is confidently addressing Nigeria’s challenges. He emphasized that while Peter Obi may have posed a competitive presence in the past, he no longer represents a significant threat ahead of the 2027 general elections.

“This government is not afraid of Peter Obi. He is not a nightmare to our government. Maybe before, Peter Obi was a threat, but right now, Peter Obi is no threat because we stand on solid ground of performance,” Dare stated. “We are able to interrogate the problems of this country.”

Dare specifically addressed Obi’s performance in Lagos during the 2023 presidential election, where the Labour Party candidate outperformed President Tinubu in the state. He declared confidently: “Peter Obi defeated President Tinubu in Lagos in 2023. This is 2027; he can’t defeat Tinubu again in Lagos.”

The Presidential spokesperson highlighted the administration’s ongoing efforts to tackle economic issues, insecurity, and other national priorities, positioning President Tinubu’s leadership as one rooted in tangible results and strategic governance rather than fear of opposition voices.

Dare further noted that constitutional provisions and democratic processes will determine the political future, urging focus on performance and service delivery over political rhetoric.
