Minister of the Federal Capital Territory and prominent Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) leader, Nyesom Wike, has charged PDP candidates and party faithful to prepare for a fierce battle ahead of the 2027 general elections, declaring that political power is not given but must be taken through determination and struggle.
Addressing the PDP’s 109th National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting in Abuja, Wike emphasized the need for resilience, warning that those unprepared to fight should not aspire for leadership positions. “Nobody gives power. You must take it,” he told the gathering of aspirants and party leaders.
Wike urged candidates to brace for the rigours of opposition politics, stressing that power requires sacrifice, hard work, and unwavering commitment. “You have to struggle for it. You have to fight for it. You don’t need to be scared,” he added, calling on the party to move beyond complaints and focus on strategic action to reclaim political relevance.
The fiery statement comes as the PDP grapples with internal dynamics while positioning itself for a strong showing in the 2027 polls. Wike, a national leader of the party, reiterated the importance of unity, seriousness, and readiness to contest across all levels from presidential to state assembly.
“This is not the time for the faint-hearted,” Wike said. “If you are not prepared to fight for what you believe in, you have no business seeking power.”
The remarks have energized sections of the PDP base, with many interpreting them as a call to action for a more aggressive and united front ahead of the crucial elections.
