Following a comprehensive review of the security situation in Osun State, Governor Senator Ademola Jackson Nurudeen Adeleke has directed the immediate suspension of all activities of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) in motor parks across the state.
The directive was issued after a meeting of the Osun State Security Council, chaired by the Governor and attended by top security commanders from the Nigeria Police Force (State Command and Zone 11), Department of State Services (DSS), Nigerian Army, Nigerian Air Force, Nigerian Navy, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, NDLEA, Immigration Service, Correctional Service, FRSC, NAPTIP, and the Western Nigeria Security Network (Amotekun), alongside the Deputy Governor, Chief of Staff, Honourable Commissioner for Information, and Special Adviser on Security Matters.
The decision aims to restore sanity and order to the state's motor parks amid ongoing security concerns and disturbances linked to union activities. Motor parks will remain operational to ensure seamless transportation services for residents and visitors, but no individual or group will be permitted to operate or collect levies in the name of the NURTW.
Governor Adeleke emphasized: “I hereby direct the Police and other security agents to stop all activities of the union in all our parks across the state. I’m not saying you should close the parks, but you should not allow anyone to operate in the parks in the name of the union. Anyone found contravening this order should be arrested for possible prosecution for disturbance of public peace.”
The Governor further instructed security agencies to arrest any person parading themselves as an official or executive of the NURTW in any motor park. To ensure full compliance, he directed the immediate establishment of a Rapid Response Squad comprising personnel from all security agencies in the state.
Security commanders present at the meeting assured the Governor of their commitment to strict enforcement of the directive.
This measure is part of the state government’s broader efforts to enhance public safety, reduce conflicts, and promote a more orderly transport system that benefits all residents of Osun State.
