Governor Alex Otti of Abia State has commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for the bold decision to remove the fuel subsidy, describing it as a courageous step necessary for Nigeria’s long-term economic health.
In a recent statement, Governor Otti praised the President’s reform agenda, noting that confronting entrenched inefficiencies like the fuel subsidy regime requires exceptional political will and vision. “It takes courage to remove fuel subsidy,” Governor Otti declared, emphasizing that such reforms, though difficult in the short term, are essential for sustainable national development.
Governor Otti dismissed widespread narratives of unbearable hardship, arguing that the removal of the subsidy has begun yielding positive results through improved fiscal discipline, increased revenue for development, and a more transparent economy.
He urged Nigerians to remain patient and supportive of the reforms, highlighting that previous subsidy regimes were largely inefficient, prone to corruption, and benefited a few at the expense of the many.
Governor Otti reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to complementing federal efforts by implementing people focused programs in Abia State, including infrastructure development, improved healthcare, education, and targeted palliatives to cushion any transitional challenges.
He called on citizens to focus on productivity, innovation, and collective resilience rather than short-term discomforts.
The Governor expressed confidence that the reforms would lead to better fuel availability, reduced smuggling, and greater investment in critical sectors, ultimately benefiting ordinary Nigerians.
