New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani announced today that the City of New York does not have the independent legal authority to enforce an International Criminal Court (ICC) arrest warrant against Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
In a statement, Mayor Mamdani clarified that after a thorough review by his administration’s legal team of all available avenues under applicable law, it is clear the city cannot execute the warrant independently. He urged the federal government to join the ICC and take appropriate action.
“As I’ve said, I agree with the ICC that Benjamin Netanyahu should be arrested and tried for his crimes, as I do for anyone else charged by the ICC,” Mayor Mamdani stated.
“My administration has reviewed every avenue available under applicable law to determine whether New York City could execute the International Criminal Court’s arrest warrant if Benjamin Netanyahu came here.
