Kebbi State Governor, Comrade Dr. Nasir Idris, has declared that his administration’s prudent financial management and fiscal discipline have positioned the state to pay workers’ salaries and pensions for five consecutive months without relying on allocations from the Federation Account Allocation Committee (FAAC).
The Governor made the statement on Monday in Birnin Kebbi while speaking at the opening of the Health Workers’ Summit organised by the Kebbi State Assembly of Health Workers. The Assembly comprises the Medical and Health Workers Union, the Association of Medical Laboratory Scientists of Nigeria, the National Association of Nigerian Nurses and Midwives, Laboratory Technicians, and the Pharmaceutical Society of Nigeria.
Governor Idris attributed the state’s financial resilience to consistent prudent management and discipline over time. He reaffirmed his identity as a labour leader, noting that as a former National President of the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT) and Deputy President of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), he remains committed to the welfare of workers.
“I’ll not let you down or disappoint you; I’m still one of you,” the Governor told the gathering. “Immediately I assumed office as the executive governor, I lifted the embargo on employment and employed 5,166 workers into the civil service, including doctors, health workers and nurses.
“My administration has improved the health sector as well as implemented the new consolidated salary structure for doctors and health workers.”
The Governor’s declaration underscores Kebbi State’s reputation for timely payment of salaries, pensions, gratuities, and other entitlements, a priority his administration has maintained since assuming office.
