The Kebbi State Government has pledged to provide support to the families of the ten police officers and other victims killed in a terrorist/bandit attack along the Rafin Makuku axis of Sakaba Local Government Area of the state.
Governor Nasir Idris made the commitment on Tuesday, August 11, 2026, when a high-powered delegation from the Inspector-General of Police, Mr. Olatunji Disu, led by the Deputy Inspector-General of Police (DIG), Umar Dada, paid a condolence visit to him at the Government House in Birnin Kebbi.
The Governor expressed deep condolences to the Inspector-General of Police and the entire Nigeria Police Force over the tragic loss of the officers, who were deployed to the area to support other security agencies in the fight against terrorism and criminality.
“I want to condole the IGP and the entire Nigeria Police Force over the sudden death of these officers. It is our tradition in Kebbi to support the families of fallen security personnel who lose their lives in the line of duty. The Kebbi State Government will support families of the officers who lost their lives,” Governor Idris stated.
He described the officers’ sacrifice as a painful and heartbreaking loss made while defending the lives and property of citizens and protecting the territorial integrity of Nigeria. The Governor also assured the bereaved families of sustained government intervention and support, reaffirming the state’s commitment to collaborating with the Nigeria Police Force and other security agencies to restore lasting peace across Kebbi State.
DIG Umar Dada, who represented the IGP, conveyed the Force’s condolences to the Governor, the people of Kebbi State, and the families of the fallen officers. He assured that the police would not relent in efforts to apprehend those responsible for the attack and bring them to justice.
“Be rest assured that we are not going to relent in our efforts. Those responsible for the attack will be arrested and brought to book,” DIG Dada said.
He commended the Kebbi State Government for its continued support to the police and other security agencies and disclosed that a police squadron would soon be established in the state to further strengthen security operations and enhance the protection of lives and property.
The attack, which occurred on Monday, August 10, 2026, involved a fierce gun battle between police operatives and heavily armed bandits moving between Zamfara and Kebbi states. According to police reports, 17 suspected bandits were neutralised, four motorcycles belonging to the attackers were destroyed, while ten police officers were killed, two others injured, and two civilians also lost their lives.
The remains of the slain officers have been conveyed to Birnin Kebbi, and additional security personnel have been deployed to the area to sustain operations and prevent the fleeing attackers from regrouping.
The Kebbi State Government reaffirmed its solidarity with the Nigeria Police Force and the families of the heroes who paid the ultimate price in the line of duty.
