The National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Professor Nentawe Yilwatda, has commenced a two-week vacation outside Nigeria.
Abimbola Tooki, Special Adviser to the National Chairman on Media and Information Strategy, made the announcement in a statement issued on Wednesday. The break follows what the party described as an exceptionally demanding and eventful first year of Professor Yilwatda’s tenure.
Tooki stated that the vacation would provide the National Chairman with an opportunity to rest, rejuvenate and reflect on the party’s next phase of development ahead of the 2027 general elections. He added that Professor Yilwatda would use the period to retool and further sharpen his strategic thinking.
Under Professor Yilwatda’s leadership, the APC successfully organised and concluded its National Convention, strengthened its internal structures and conducted primary elections at various levels in preparation for the 2027 polls. The statement described these milestones as having further consolidated the party’s position as Nigeria’s leading political organisation.
Tooki emphasised that the vacation should not be seen as a disengagement from party affairs. “Far from being a disengagement from party affairs, the vacation provides the National Chairman with an opportunity to step back briefly from the intensity of day-to-day activities, recharge and reflect on the enormous responsibilities ahead,” the statement said.
The National Chairman will also utilise the period to put finishing touches to the design and planning of the forthcoming National Working Committee (NWC) Retreat. The retreat is expected to review the party’s journey so far, identify emerging challenges and agree on strategies for the months ahead.
