Military aircraft under Operation Fansan Yanma carried out coordinated air strikes on Monday evening against suspected terrorists in Yankuzo community, Tsafe Local Government Area of Zamfara State, resulting in the neutralisation of several fighters.
According to reports from local sources cited by the counter-insurgency publication Zagazola Makama, five military aircraft participated in the operation and engaged the suspected terrorists in the community. Several fighters were killed, though the exact casualty figure could not be immediately confirmed. A number of other suspected terrorists were also wounded in the strikes.
Among those reportedly killed was a terrorist identified as Isiya Gurgu, described as a close associate of the notorious bandit leader known as Musa Commander. Musa Commander is linked to the Ado Aleru network and is said to be associated with several terrorist-controlled communities, including Tsamiya and other settlements in the area.
Sources indicated that security forces exercised caution during the engagement to minimise civilian casualties, focusing on individuals observed carrying weapons or dressed in military-style uniforms.
The Yankuzo community has long been regarded as a stronghold of armed groups affiliated with the Ado Aleru network. Residents of the area have faced persistent threats from fighters operating in and around the community.
Operation Fansan Yanma continues its sustained efforts to dismantle terrorist networks, deny them safe havens, and restore lasting peace and security across Zamfara State and the wider North-West region.
