Nigeria’s D’Tigress exited the 2026 FIBA Women’s Basketball World Cup after suffering a 111-56 defeat to France in their final Group B match at the Berlin Arena on Monday.
The result marked the African champions’ third consecutive loss at the tournament. D’Tigress had earlier fallen 99-81 to South Korea and 71-67 to Hungary. The heavy loss left Nigeria at the bottom of Group B and confirmed their elimination from the competition.
France dominated from the opening tip. The European side led 31-13 after the first quarter and extended the advantage to 65-26 by half-time. They further increased the lead to 95-36 after the third quarter. France set a new FIBA Women’s World Cup record by making 22 three-pointers in the game and scored 65 points in the first half.
Gabby Williams led France with 25 points. Janelle Salaün added 19 points, while Marine Johannes finished with 17.
D’Tigress entered the tournament as five-time consecutive African champions and ranked among the top teams globally. Their best previous World Cup performance came in 2018, when they reached the quarter-finals in Spain.
