The Emir of Gumel in Jigawa State, Alhaji Dr. Ahmed Muhammad Sani II, CON, has passed away. He died on Thursday in Cairo, Egypt, after a reign of nearly 46 years. He was 85 years old.
The monarch's death was announced in a condolence message by former Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Professor Isa Ali Ibrahim Pantami. According to the statement, the Emir ascended the throne on December 16, 1980, and served his people until his passing.
Professor Pantami described the late Emir as a distinguished scholar and a beacon of wisdom dedicated to peace, education, and the preservation of cultural values. He highlighted that the Gumel Emirate, founded in the 18th century, is one of the oldest and most respected traditional institutions in Northern Nigeria.
“The late Emir was a distinguished scholar, a beacon of wisdom, and a father to all. He dedicated his life to the service of his people, the promotion of peace, education, and the preservation of our cultural values,” Pantami stated.
He extended condolences to the royal family, the Gumel Emirate Council, the Sultan of Sokoto, and the government and people of Jigawa State. Prayers have been offered for the repose of the monarch’s soul and for strength for his family and subjects to bear the loss.
