The South-South Governors’ Forum (SSGF) has pledged “100 per cent” support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s re-election bid in 2027 while resolving to transform the region into Nigeria’s most formidable integrated economic bloc.
The resolution was contained in a communiqué issued at the end of the Forum’s second meeting held on Monday in Calabar under the chairmanship of Bayelsa State Governor, Senator Douye Diri. Governors from Akwa Ibom, Bayelsa, Cross River, Delta, Edo and Rivers States participated in the deliberations.
The governors declared that the South-South possesses the natural resources, strategic location and human capital to become a unified economic powerhouse.
They stressed the urgent need to move beyond fragmented state-level development and implement a coordinated regional agenda focused on infrastructure connectivity, industrialisation, maritime trade and joint investment promotion.
The Forum resolved to engage President Tinubu directly on critical infrastructure gaps, environmental restoration and other regional concerns. Cross River State Governor and Forum Vice Chairman, Senator Bassey Edet Otu, emphasised that the region’s ability to attract meaningful development depends on speaking and acting collectively.
In a major political declaration, the governors reaffirmed their full commitment to President Tinubu’s re-election in 2027, describing the support as total and unambiguous from the South-South region.
The Forum also agreed to institutionalise its activities through quarterly meetings. The next gathering is scheduled to hold in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, from November 6 to 8, 2026.
