The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has announced that it is currently uncertain when the Nigerian government will commence the payment of the newly approved N77,000 monthly allowance to corps members.
The Director-General of NYSC, Brigadier General YD Ahmed, expressed gratitude to the Federal Government for the approval but noted that the exact timeline for the disbursement of the increased allowance remains unclear. “We appreciate the government’s commitment to improving the welfare of our corps members. However, we are still awaiting directives on when the payment will begin,” said Brigadier General Ahmed.
Despite the approval, the NYSC has not yet received the necessary instructions to start the payment process.
Corps members across the country have expressed mixed feelings about the delay. While they are optimistic about the positive impact of the increased allowance on their financial stability, the uncertainty surrounding the payment timeline has caused some concern.
“We are hopeful that the government will expedite the process so that we can start receiving the new allowance soon,” said a corps member who preferred to remain anonymous.
The NYSC reassures all corps members that it is in constant communication with the relevant authorities to ensure that the payment of the increased allowance begins as soon as possible. The organization remains committed to advocating for the welfare and support of all corps members during their service year.
