The Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission (RSIEC) has successfully transported electoral materials to over 6,300 polling units across the state in preparation for the local government council elections. This significant logistical effort marks a crucial step in ensuring a smooth and efficient electoral process.
The Chairman of RSIEC, Dr. Chukwudi Orji, confirmed that both sensitive and non-sensitive materials have been distributed to all designated polling units. “We have ensured that all necessary materials, including updated voter registers, ballot papers, and other essential items, are in place to facilitate a transparent and credible election,” Dr. Orji stated.
Security measures have been heightened to safeguard the electoral materials and ensure the safety of voters and officials. The Rivers State Police Command, in collaboration with other security agencies, has deployed personnel to maintain order and prevent any disruptions during the election.
Governor Siminalayi Fubara expressed confidence in the preparedness of RSIEC and urged all eligible voters to participate in the election. “This election is a vital part of our democratic process, and I encourage all citizens to exercise their right to vote peacefully and responsibly,” Governor Fubara said.
Despite some initial challenges, including reports of delayed material distribution in a few areas, RSIEC has assured the public that all issues are being addressed promptly to ensure that voting proceeds smoothly.
