The Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) wishes to inform the public of a technical incident that occurred on the Abuja-Kaduna Train Service (AKTS) on the evening of Wednesday, August 20, 2025. A coach on the train experienced a hot axle several kilometers from Rigasa Station in Kaduna, attributed to abnormal temperature and excessive heat affecting the wheel’s journal housing.
Thanks to swift intervention by NRC personnel, the situation was immediately brought under control, and the train was safely marshalled to Kaduna without further complications.
As a result of the incident, business class capacity on subsequent services has been temporarily affected. NRC has proactively contacted all passengers booked on the impacted coach for Thursday, using the contact details provided during online booking. Alternative arrangements have been made to ensure their travel plans are accommodated with minimal disruption.
The NRC deeply regrets the inconvenience caused and extends its sincere apologies to all affected passengers. We reaffirm our commitment to maintaining the highest safety standards and delivering a reliable travel experience across all our train networks.
“We assure all our customers and passengers of their safety on our train services as we are determined to continue to provide the best travel experience,” said Mr. Callistus Unyimadu, Chief Public Relations Officer of NRC.
