Minister of Transportation and ex-Governor of Rivers State, Rt. Hon. Rotimi Amaechi, has officially declared his intention to contest the 2027 presidential election under the banner of the African Democratic Congress (ADC). Speaking to journalists in Kano following a strategic meeting with grassroots leaders and traders, Amaechi made it clear: his ambition is firm, and he will not yield to internal pressure or political compromise.
“I will contest the ADC presidential primary, and by God’s grace, I hope to win so that I can face Tinubu in 2027. I am not stepping down for anyone. Let the people decide who they want to lead,” Amaechi stated emphatically.
Amaechi emphasized the importance of internal democracy within the ADC, calling for a transparent and competitive primary process. He believes such openness will strengthen the party’s credibility and offer Nigerians a genuine alternative to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
In a bold critique of the current administration, Amaechi expressed concern over the growing dissatisfaction among Nigerians, citing economic hardship and exclusionary governance.
“Whether the government wants to conduct credible elections or not, one thing is certain—time is up. Nigerians are tired because no one is happy under Tinubu, not even in Rivers or across the South. People are suffering everywhere,” he said.
Addressing questions about zoning and regional representation, Amaechi reaffirmed his commitment to national unity: “If you look at all those aspiring, including Tinubu, who is better prepared than I am? My candidacy offers unity because I come from the South, and we are not in conflict with any region,” he added.
Amaechi also dismissed speculation about waning influence in his home state, citing the overwhelming support during his recent visit to inaugurate the ADC in Rivers.
